Description: |
Thin asphalt layers (TAL) are cost- and eco-effective, have excellent skid resistance, abate rolling noise, and can be laid rapidly. They have been used in and outside Europe for some fifteen years, in spite of a few drawbacks such as some susceptibility to fretting and a risk of debonding from the binder course.
To optimize knowledge on, and the performance of, these surface courses, present know-how and experience in the field of TAL were pooled in a project under the acronym OPTHINAL (Optimization Thin Asphalt Layers). It was also investigated how the choice of materials and mix design can affect the performance of TAL. The project was carried out under the ERA-NET ROAD programme, by a consortium formed by the Danish DRI as project leader and the Swedish VTI and BRRC as partners. It was completed in December 2010.
On Tuesday Marc 29, 2011, the members of the project team will present the results of their research in BRRC’s auditorium at Sterrebeek (Belgium). English will be the working language. The target audience includes all road professionals – contractors, asphalt manufacturers, engineering consultants, regional, provincial and municipal road managers, etc. |
